UKIP sniff victory in Hartlepool

In a message to supporters, the UKIP candidate Stephen Allison has forecast a close result in the race to become the next MP for Hartlepool.

"We are ideally placed to beat the Conservatives into fourth place and are snapping at the heels of the Liberal Democrats who have spun their way into second place, at the moment."

"Hopefully, the voters will see through them before the big day."

"It is still quite conceivable that we could win the by-election in Hartlepool, as the whole town is very EU-sceptic."
